Welcome!
The Prairie Vale school counseling program includes: classroom lessons, small group sessions, and individual counseling conducted by the school counselor, Hillary Underwood. The counseling program focuses on student character and social, emotional, and academic development while facilitating a relationship between the counselor, students, teachers, and parents to cultivate a positive school climate.
Guidance class consists of bi-weekly 45 minute lessons for every classroom from Kindergarten to 4th grade. This year, the primary curriculum incorporated in the guidance lessons will be based around character education topics such as responsibility, respect, kindness, gratitude, perseverance, trustworthiness, acceptance, and many other traits. Additional topics and concepts studied and discussed during guidance class include emotional regulation, drug free education, career education and academic skills for success. All lessons are developmentally appropriate and differentiated for each grade level.
Small groups will be offered this year emphasizing a broad range of topics from social skills, self-esteem, anger management, divorce, self-control, academic study skills, and friendship skills. Individual counseling is facilitated by the school counselor on an as needed basis or students can be referred to the Deer Creek Health and Wellness program which provides individual counseling for students all across the Deer Creek school district.
Please let us know if there is anything we can help you with here at Prairie Vale by contacting Mrs. Underwood at [email protected] or through the contact form located on the website.
